A Morning to Remember at Hotel Las Palmas

Our adventure begins with a serene morning at the beautiful Hotel Las Palmas in San Felipe. Imagine waking up to the soothing sounds of Duke Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady,” enjoying a hearty breakfast with close friends like Nick Bruce and Cam Muldner. The hotel’s manicured grounds and the inviting patio offer a tranquil oasis that contrasts sharply with the day’s rugged activities. It’s the perfect setting to fuel up and gear up for the intense day ahead.

Pre-Running the Baja 1000

Unlike the adrenaline-fueled racers who would tackle the course a week later, my friend Mark Fulton and I had the pleasure of pre-running the challenging lower half of the Baja 1000 course alongside racers Steve Anderson, and Stony Ratliff. Steering through the rugged terrains in our trusty Can-Am X3 Max, equipped with a top-notch shock therapy suspension, the experience was nothing short of thrilling. Our vehicle, enhanced for peak performance, handled the demanding conditions flawlessly, allowing us to focus on the raw beauty and the exhilarating challenge of the course.

Evening Delights: Tacos by the Fire

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the crackling fire became the centerpiece of our evening. There’s something magical about gathering around a fire, sharing stories and laughs under the starlit sky. On the menu? Tacos cooked right by the fire, infusing smoky flavors that only open flames can impart.
